Where We Played: Phoenix Airport Playground

Terminal 3, North Side

Terminal 3 at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has a north and south side. Each has its own security checkpoint, so you can't move between them without going through security. Thankfully the airport has placed a play area on each side of the terminal. The one on the north side is located near gates 23-26. Bonus points also go to this play area for being across the way from a Starbucks.

Hodge-podge is the term that best fits this play area. It looks like the airport cleared out some seats and plopped in whatever kid stuff they could find. There was a small slide/play structure and various panels and benches with games.

The play area also has some cushions that I think are meant to climb on and build forts.

Unfortunately, some adults decided to appropriate a few of them for their own comfort. When my daughter approached one of the men, he said that the cushion was his table before she even said anything.

Shame on you, grown-ups! At least the guy with the "table" brought it back to the play area. Mr. Reclining Ramp used his piece the whole hour or so we were there.

Hodge-podge or not, my daughter enjoyed her time here, and the location is convenient for all in the north side of Terminal 3.

Floor: carpet
Parent seating: The boundary of the play area is marked off by 2 rows of standard airport chairs, so it's the same as anywhere else in the airport.
Best for: infants through age 6. The carpet and good amount of open space make this a good place to throw down a blanket for tummy time or let a crawler roam. I'm not sure that kids 7 and up will be entertained very much, especially because the play structure is small.
