We made it to Austria!
24.07.2011 - 27.07.2011
Greetings from Oberndorf in Tirol, Austria!
These have been a tiring few days. We left home Sunday morning. We were set to have a 2-hour layover in Philadelphia, but our flight from Phoenix to Philly landed late because of weather and air traffic. By the time we made it to the gate for our flight to Munich, they were boarding all passengers and all rows. This meant that my daughter pretty much went straight from the plane to her stroller to another plane, and there was no time to buy lunch: bad news. A few minutes after boarding, we were told that there was something that needed to be fixed on one of the plane's doors. Between waiting for the repair and topping off on fuel, we spent 2 hours on the plane before we ever took off: more bad news. My daughter was getting restless and cranky. It also took her a long time to finally settle in and sleep on the plane. She and I got about about 2 hours of sleep. My poor husband got even less.
Once we got to our hotel in Munich and ate some lunch, we all were in desperate need of a nap, but didn't want to sleep too much and prolong our jetlag. Our three-hour nap felt great, but perhaps turned out to be too much: all of us were up before 2 AM (the fact that 2 AM Munich time is 5 PM back home probably was another big factor). We tried to settle my daughter back down, but she wasn't having it. At around 4:45 AM we gave up and started getting ready for the day because we had to pick up our car.
After picking up our car yesterday, our jetlagged and cranky family drove an hour and a half from Munich to a family-owned hotel a few miles away from Kitzbuhel. The Alps are beautiful! Even though I still had some late-night insomnia and my daughter had some wake-ups, we slept much better last night, and we are all in a much better mood. We are looking forward to some time chill-out time.
If all goes well with the wifi here, I hope to get more caught up on what we've been doing. Thanks for reading!

What a terrible beginning! I see one problem as not being able to give Sofia time to stretch her legs and run around a bit between flights. Ahhhh, the best laid plans! What type of exercise could she actually do while you were waiting and waiting on the ground in the plane?
